MDAD 976 Medical Education Administration (2). The student will gain a comprehensive understanding of the various components of medical school administration and its unique problems through observation of daily activities, discussion with administrative faculty and staff, and through assigned readings or videotapes. The student will learn about the following administrative areas: 1) Management principles, including the Total Quality movement, resource allocation issues, and administrative problems peculiar to community-based medical school, 2) The grant application/approval process, administration of clinical drug trials, and topics of interest to the Human Subjects Committee, 3) Aspects of clinical practice management and departmental management. An essay on some aspect of medical school administration will be assigned to test the students' ability to synthesize ideas from the readings and observations and defend his/her position. A panel will administer an oral exam concerning problems and potential solutions of medical school administration. Final grade: Oral exam—30%, Essay—70%. Prerequisite: Approval of Dean. CLN
