We are pleased you are considering a career in social work.
The School of Social Welfare has a 55-year history of helping students
use their talents and experience to develop the sophisticated perspective
and complex skills needed for professional social work practice. Our educational
programs blend the profession’s powerful history of commitment to
vulnerable groups with the most up-to-date approaches for helping people
achieve their goals. The school has developed the strengths perspective
for social work practice, an approach receiving national and international
attention as a positive strategy for supporting life-affirming change.
Our goal is to develop self-reflective practitioners
who have a strong sense of social justice, who are willing to examine
their taken-for-granted assumptions, who honor diversity, and who are
able to bring both compassion and passion to the art of helping. If this
vision matches yours, we invite you to pursue your interest in a social
work program at the University of Kansas.
